Sutton’s Black History Month Celebrations

Sutton Black History Group is proud to announce its series of vibrant events celebrating black heritage and culture in the borough, this year’s Black History Month (BHM).

Throughout the UK, BHM has grown to include thousands of events and continues to expand in size and scope. Originating in America, BHM highlights the history of black people, their achievements, ingenuity and talents. It has become an opportunity for all sectors of the local community to enjoy and benefit from its rich and diverse African Caribbean culture. This year, there will be a variety of cultural delights on the menu, including poetry, African Drumming workshops, storytelling sessions, multicultural activities, and much more. There will also be a ‘concert for change’.

The launch party took place last Monday 1st October at the Europa Gallery, Central Library, Sutton, and included chronological depictions of historical events and figures which have enabled the African Diaspora, African Caribbean food tasters, and a performance from the Wallington Girls’ Gospel Choir. The Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Sean Brennan attended.
