Sporting stars of the future getting ready to represent Sutton

Sutton youngsters are getting ready for sporting glory as tryouts begin for this year’s London Youth Games.

Sutton Community Sport & Physical Activity Team are running the first set of trials and training for the Sutton Youth Teams in April and May. Those selected to become part of the team will compete in the London Youth Games and represent Sutton.

There are trials coming up over the next few weeks for:- Boys Basketball, Girls Hockey, Badminton, Boys & Girls Football, Table Tennis, Trampoline, and Netball and more.

Trial and training sessions are free to all young people aged 11-17 years (age varies according to the sports rules) who either live in Sutton or attend a Sutton school. Athletes do not have to be experts but they should be competent in their chosen sport, familiar with the competition rules and have bags of energy and enthusiasm!

Those selected for the Sutton squad will compete in free competitions in June and July and at the finals at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on 5 & 6 July, against young athletes from across all the 33 London Boroughs.

Carshalton Central ward councillor Jill Whitehead, Chair of Sutton Council’s Environment and Neighbourhoods Committee, said:

“The London Youth Games trials are a great opportunity for Sutton’s young people to show their sporting talents. The Games boast a proud tradition of producing many Olympic and Paralympic medallists. I hope that Sutton’s sporting stars of the future will come out in force to take part.”
