Carshalton Road/Pound Street/High Street: Road Works between Oxford Road and North Street

Alan, Hamish and Jill have only just received a notification regarding imminent roadworks starting today 17th September 2012 along the A232 Carshalton Road/Pound Street/High Street, which is a Red Route and operated by Transport for London, not Sutton Council. The point of the main repairs is to prevent rattling manhole covers, which of course can be very irritating to residents.

Road Network Information

Dear  Stakeholder,

A232 Carshalton Road – Repairing Rattling Ironworks

Transport for London (TfL) has appointed EnterpriseMouchel,  to carry out essential maintenance works on A232 Carshalton Road. To ensure the safety of those using the road, the following traffic management will be put in place:

Why are we doing this work?

The works will bring benefits to road users.  The A232 is an important route for through traffic, and as such is a very difficult route to maintain. We have arranged the work to replace manhole covers and repair damaged chambers, thus reducing the rattling noise being produced from the cover and frame when trafficked.

What times will the work take place?

The works will begin Monday 17 September and will be completed by Tuesday 18 September 2012. In agreement with, the London Borough of Sutton the working hours will be from 20:00 to 05.00.

What we would like you to know

The works will run from the junction of Oxford Road to the junction of North Street, beside the War Memorial Ponds repairing rattling manhole covers.

As with all works on the Transport for London Road Network, we must balance possible disruption to residents with disruption to traffic. Working at night provides us with the best chance to complete these works as quickly as possible with as little disruption as possible.

Every effort will be made to ensure that noisy operations are completed before midnight but we should explain that vehicle reversing warning beepers are essential safety devices to protect operatives.

All diversions will be clearly signposted locally, during the working times only. This will be indicated via – traffic signs. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times during the works.

Bus routes using the A1 will need to be diverted, and these diversions will be signed at local bus stops. At certain times there may be a periods where no contractors will be on site; this is to allow the concrete to cure and to prepare for reinstatement of the road.

Keeping London moving

Transport for London is firmly committed to minimising disruption. We have worked closely with our contractor, Amey, and the London Borough of Barnet in order to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local residents and businesses as far as possible. I hope you will appreciate that a certain level of disruption is inevitable, and I apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of these essential works. Should you require further information or an update during the delivery of these works please contact our Streets Customer Services department on 0845 305 1234 or via the web at www.tfl.gov.uk/contact.

Yours faithfully,
